Today it has evolved into the definitive entertainment channel covering music, lifestyle as well as award-winning reality and scripted TV shows. ister channel MTV Base started in 2005 whilst MTV only began in July 2013 and is now available in 52 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa on DStv channel 130. MTV’s audience has a slight skew towards females. The MTV viewer is still very young, 26% in the 15-24 year old age group. This young audience also has a high household income with more than half of them falling in the LSM 9-10 bracket.
